data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>What connection can Jorge Molder and John Murphy have to each other in this exhibition, and apart from the medium of photography? It is what they aim to reach through it. Although each of them have their own process - Molder has been exploring a strange and singular photographic search for the past few decades through self-representation, sometimes mixed with film situations - Murphy uses the image, sometimes cinematographic, but only for conceptual purposes. What they seek is not a photograph but a tension, a research on being and its ambiguities, on time.<\/p><p>John Murphy plays on the theme of similarity and difference - with existing materials such as reproductions, photos from old films, postcards. His works evoke nostalgia, absence, sexuality, with a precision exquisite of refinement. If his recent work consists of borrowings used in the manner of ready-mades (postcards, placards, objects) or transformed (reframed, modified in the format - the support or the medium). Sometimes, he associates a fragment of text, and these few words - often part of the work - become its title. Thus, they produce a dialectical game in which association, interval and ellipse - three typically cinematographic operations and more particularly related to editing - play a primordial role. What happens in the in-between of the image and the words - that spatial and temporal zone where meaning is created, \"that existential anxiety\", is precisely what interests the artist.<\/p><p>As Muriel Denet explains in her review of the Jorge Molder exhibition at the Mus\u00e9e du Jeu de Paume in 2008: \"Jorge Molder is beyond self-representation or narcissistic introspection. He uses his body, his face, and photographic and video images as materials for reflection. Without it being his representation, but rather an embodiment. The image is the body of a thought that does not have one, but also its place and its tool: a thought occupied by anxiety, the fear of darkness, of failure, irremediable like death, so many metaphors of the creative process. But nothing despairing, however, a deviation, of the order of pantomime, discreetly defuses any tragic effect. \u00bb On the first floor of the gallery will be presented two series by Jorge Molder, entitled Curta metragem, 1999-2000, each comprising a suite of 10 Polaroids. Curta metragem is, of course, conceived as a film sequence, a sort of location, rhythm, mirror of the action of the protagonist, and also three large photographs from his latest series, Malgr\u00e9 lui.<\/p><p>Jorge Molder, born in 1947, lives and works in Lisbon. He had his first solo exhibition in 1977 and his works are included in numerous museums and international collections. He represented Portugal at the 48th Venice Biennale in 1999. He was awarded the Grand Prix of the EDP Foundation in 2010, and finally the AICA\/Portugal Prize\/Art in 2014. Si son travail r\u00e9cent est constitu\u00e9 d&#8217;emprunts utilis\u00e9s \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re des ready-mades (cartes postales, affichettes, objets) ou transform\u00e9s (recadr\u00e9s, modifi\u00e9s dans le format &#8211; le support ou le m\u00e9dium), il associe parfois un fragment de texte &#8211; ces quelques mots, souvent partie de l&rsquo;\u0153uvre, en deviennent le titre. Ils produisent ainsi un jeu dialectique dans lequel l&rsquo;association, l&rsquo;intervalle et l&rsquo;ellipse &#8211; trois op\u00e9rations typiquement cin\u00e9matographiques et\u00a0plus\u00a0particuli\u00e8rement li\u00e9es au montage &#8211; ont un r\u00f4le primordial.\u00a0Ce qui se passe dans l&rsquo;entre-deux de l&rsquo;image et des mots &#8211; cette zone spatiale et temporelle o\u00f9 se\u00a0cr\u00e9e le sens, cette \u00ab\u00a0inqui\u00e9tude existentielle\u00a0\u00bb, est\u00a0pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment ce qui int\u00e9resse l\u2019artiste. Dans son texte consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 John Murphy \u00ab\u00a0La\u00a0d\u00e9mesure des images\u00a0\u00bb Marc Donnadieu pr\u00e9cise les choses:\u00a0\u00abDans l\u2019\u0153uvre de John Murphy, la\u00a0photographie et le cin\u00e9ma tiennent une place singuli\u00e8re, mais celle-ci tend, au\u00a0fil du temps, \u00e0 devenir d\u00e9terminante, sinon presque premi\u00e8re. Durant les ann\u00e9es\u00a01970-1980, l\u2019apparition des images au sein de la couche picturale \u00e9tait, d\u2019une\u00a0certaine mani\u00e8re, au c\u0153ur de son projet\u00a0artistique. On avait alors fait peu\u00a0attention \u00e0 la qualit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9cran de cette derni\u00e8re : non pas le plan de la\u00a0fen\u00eatre, telle la mise au carreau qui s\u00e9pare l\u2019\u0153il de l\u2019artiste de son mod\u00e8le\u00a0dans les gravures du d\u00e9but de la Renaissance illustrant le principe de la\u00a0perspective, non pas une surface plane horizontale analogue \u00e0\u00a0la plaque ou au\u00a0papier photographique enduit d\u2019une \u00e9mulsion sensible \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re, non pas une\u00a0sorte d\u2019\u00e9cran plat vertical\u00a0\u00e0\u00a0l\u2019instar\u00a0de\u00a0l\u2019\u00e9cran de\u00a0projection cin\u00e9matographique en lui-m\u00eame, mais une densit\u00e9 profonde g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e par\u00a0des couches de glacis nuanc\u00e9s, presque un pelage ou un plumage de peinture, une\u00a0peau ou une d\u00e9pouille, sur lesquels, selon les cas, l\u2019artiste venait presque\u00a0tatouer des figures sommaires de personnages, d\u2019animaux ou d\u2019objets, voire m\u00eame\u00a0de simples phrases, la plupart du temps emprunt\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art \u2013 sans\u00a0toutefois en r\u00e9f\u00e9rer \u00e0 un simple art de la citation, mais bien plut\u00f4t au\u00a0principe de la souvenance.\u00bb Ainsi que l\u2019explique Muriel Denet dans sa critique sur l\u2019exposition Jorge Molder au Mus\u00e9e du Jeu de Paume en 2008: \u00abJorge Molder se situe au-del\u00e0 de l\u2019auto-repr\u00e9sentation ou de\u00a0l\u2019introspection narcissique. Il fait\u00a0de son corps, de son visage, et\u00a0des images photographiques et vid\u00e9o-graphiques, des mat\u00e9riaux au service d\u2019une\u00a0r\u00e9flexion. Sans qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse pour autant\u00a0de sa repr\u00e9sentation, mais bien plut\u00f4t d\u2019une incarnation. L\u2019image est le corps\u00a0d\u2019une pens\u00e9e, une pens\u00e9e\u00a0occup\u00e9e par l\u2019inqui\u00e9tude, la crainte de l\u2019obscurit\u00e9, de l\u2019\u00e9chec, irr\u00e9m\u00e9diable\u00a0comme la mort, autant de m\u00e9taphores du processus de cr\u00e9ation. Mais\u00a0rien de d\u00e9sesp\u00e9rant cependant, un \u00e9cart, de l\u2019ordre de la pantomime, d\u00e9samorce\u00a0discr\u00e8tement tout effet tragique.\u00bb Seront pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es deux s\u00e9ries de Jorge Molder,\u00a0Curta\u00a0metragem,\u00a01999-2000,\u00a0comprenant chacune une suite de 10\u00a0Polaro\u00efds.\u00a0Curta\u00a0metragem\u00a0est pens\u00e9 comme une\u00a0s\u00e9quence de film, une sorte de rep\u00e9rage, de rythme, de miroir\u00a0de l\u2019action du protagoniste, ainsi que trois grandes photographies de sa r\u00e9cente s\u00e9rie, de 2019,\u00a0Malgr\u00e9 lui.\u00a0 Jorge Molder, n\u00e9 en 1947, vit et travaille \u00e0 Lisbonne. Il a sa premi\u00e8re exposition personnelle en 1977 et ses \u0153uvres figurent dans de nombreux Mus\u00e9es et collections internationales. Il repr\u00e9sente le Portugal \u00e0 la 48\u00e8me Biennale de Venise en 1999. Il re\u00e7oit le Grand Prix de la EDP Foundation en 2010, et enfin le AICA\/Portugal Prize\/Art en 2014.
