Pierart starting from December 3.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00ab If there is an artist who will never change the path he was determined to follow, without giving into the trend, it is Pol Pierart. Apart and almost in secret, he keeps his work constant and coherent. And what is unpredictable is that his work continues to retain our attention and change the way we see things. Indeed, it puts an end to the triumph of display. Throughout his exhibitions, we are still captivated by the small discoveries of a man who, without being fond of speaking in public, plays cleverly with words using irony and understatements. The artist says that his paintings allow him to go directly to the essential, they allow him to capture the physical presence of the word. Thus, in contrast to his photographie that attracts attention by modes of association endowed with a meaning and by staging aphorisms and other games of language, the canvases surprise with a great economy of means and with a rhythmic syntax limited to a single word. In the fresh colour the painter quickly traces regular letters that compose an apparently insignificant term. Those who know a little bit the artist do not ignore the continuation: by the game of strike-off, superimposed lines, and doctored letters, the initially written word takes on a new meaning and stimulates to all kinds of readings, excursions and detours. Like comets, the letters wiggle in our thoughts. They go fast, they just touch, and, without bothering about aesthetics or technical virtuosity, they go hand in hand with the ironie of the delivered message. If the exercise of style gets us ready to smile, behind the apparent lightness there are, however, the semantic interferences, a gravity that admits to being just something fairly disturbing. It may be something like a deletion of a letter, a barely noticeable erasure or, suddenly, the reversal of a meaning that operates the doctored letters. Even if it doesn\u2019t seem like it, the artist takes a visitor by a sleeve to make him\/her think. (...)\u00a0<\/p><p>Forever crossed by desire and dissatisfaction, his paintings vibrate with a flowing gesture and a material that unites the word and the colour. In fact, we do not talk too much about the colour. Yet, it is a major concern of Pol Pierart. The colour is the matrix of the word which arises, it is the trace of the physical experience of the painter. Full of nuances, it guarantees, along with the variations of features and the imperfect spelling, the aspect of incompleteness of his work. Receding from the pure colour, the artist chooses valuable gradients and shades of the past, almost transparent. 28 JANVIER 2016 La galerie Bernard Bouche a le plaisir de vous convier \u00e0 l\u2019ouverture de l\u2019exposition de Pol Pierart le samedi 3 d\u00e9cembre de 14 \u00e0 19 heures, en pr\u00e9sence de l\u2019artiste.\u00a0 \u00ab\u00a0S\u2019il est un artiste qu\u2019aucune consid\u00e9ration de mode ne semble d\u00e9tourner du chemin qu\u2019il s\u2019est d\u00e9termin\u00e9 \u00e0 suivre, c\u2019est bien Pol Pierart. A l\u2019\u00e9cart, presque en secret, il d\u00e9veloppe une \u0153uvre constante et coh\u00e9rente qui a ceci d\u2019impr\u00e9visible qu\u2019elle continue de retenir le regard, de bousculer nos habitudes de vision et de mettre un terme, provisoirement, au triomphe de la d\u00e9monstration. Au fil de ses expositions, on demeure toujours conquis par les petites trouvailles d\u2019un homme qui, s\u2019il n\u2019aime gu\u00e8re la parole publique, joue habilement avec les mots, l\u2019ironie des glissements de sens et la fantaisie des sous-entendus. De sa peinture, l\u2019artiste dit qu\u2019elle lui permet d\u2019aller directement \u00e0 l\u2019essentiel, qu\u2019elle l\u2019autorise \u00e0 saisir la pr\u00e9sence physique du mot. Ainsi, contrairement \u00e0 ses photographies qui apostrophent l\u2019attention par des modes d\u2019association dou\u00e9s de sens et par une mise en sc\u00e8ne d\u2019aphorismes et autres jeux de langage, les toiles surprennent par une grande \u00e9conomie de moyens et par une syntaxe rythmique se limitant \u00e0 un seul mot. Dans la couleur fra\u00eeche, le peintre trace rapidement les lettres normalis\u00e9es que comporte un terme apparemment anodin. Qui conna\u00eet un peu l\u2019artiste n\u2019ignore pas la suite : par un jeu de biffage, de traits superpos\u00e9s et de lettres trafiqu\u00e9es, le mot initialement \u00e9crit prend un autre sens et incite \u00e0 toutes sortes de lectures, d\u2019excursions et de d\u00e9tours. En com\u00e8te, les lettres zigzaguent dans nos pens\u00e9es. Elles vont vite, elles touchent juste et, sans s\u2019embarrasser d\u2019esth\u00e9tisme ou de virtuosit\u00e9 technique, elles s\u2019accordent avec l\u2019ironie d\u00e9tach\u00e9e du message d\u00e9livr\u00e9. Si l\u2019exercice de style pr\u00eate \u00e0 sourire, il y a n\u00e9anmoins, derri\u00e8re l\u2019apparente l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9 des interf\u00e9rences s\u00e9mantiques, une gravit\u00e9 qui s\u2019avoue \u00e0 peine, quelque chose de passablement inqui\u00e9tant. Il peut \u00eatre de l\u2019ordre de l\u2019effacement d\u2019une lettre, d\u2019une rature \u00e0 peine perceptible ou, plus brusquement, du renversement de sens qu\u2019op\u00e8rent les lettres trafiqu\u00e9es. Sans en avoir l\u2019air, l\u2019artiste tire le regardeur par la manche pour le faire r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir.
