pleased to announce an exhibition of recent works from the new photographic series Observations dans le noir by Jorge Molder, who is a prominent representative of the mid-generation of Portuguese artists and an outstanding exponent of contemporary photography. Since the 1970s, he developed a photographic work, between dreams and meta-reality. He questions the depths of memory through \u00ab staging \u00bb himself, which underly certain cinematic, literary, pictorial and philosophical references. He plays with himself in his images as if he was looking to transcend his own identity to point the finger at the uncanny elements of daily life, and awakens the sensitive memory of the viewer confronted with his personal or artistic memories.<\/p><p>He consequently developed a taste for the dark places of the soul, the \"disturbing oddness\", the map of our desires and ambiguities. This is a metaphysical side which crosses the routine of every human being. Amplifying the subject by the means of his own image, the artist, not without irony, seems to confront himself as a stranger. This is referred to the series where the central subject is often the artist, his face, his hands. Placing himself outside the self-representation or the introspection, Jorge Molder makes his images metaphorical, a material through which he attempts to reflect on time and on being in the world.<\/p><p>One of the questions raised by Molder resides in the meaning of the man\u2019s appearence, if it should have a meaning. The specific art of the portrait made by the Molder\u2019s photographic camera thus wanders along superficial territories - masks, representation, acting - yet always strives to unearth and project an intimate truth or consistency, a secret or a agalma (the pearl in the dark) that will justify and find a solution to one\u2019s own representation.<\/p><p>Jorge Molder, born in 1947, lives in Lisbon. He held his first private show in 1977. Molder\u2019s work is featured in many museums and international collections. He participated in the 22nd Biennale in S\u00e3o Paulo (1994), in the 48th Biennale in Venice (1999), where he represented Portugal. Depuis les ann\u00e9es 70, il d\u00e9veloppe un travail photographique entre r\u00eave et m\u00e9ta-r\u00e9alit\u00e9. Il interroge les tr\u00e9fonds de la m\u00e9moire \u00e0 travers des mises en sc\u00e8ne de lui-m\u00eame o\u00f9 l&rsquo;on retrouve sous-jacentes certaines r\u00e9f\u00e9rences cin\u00e9matographiques, litt\u00e9raires, picturales et philosophiques. Il joue avec lui-m\u00eame dans ses images comme s&rsquo;il cherchait \u00e0 transcender sa propre identit\u00e9 pour pointer du doigt l&rsquo;inqui\u00e9tante \u00e9tranget\u00e9 des \u00e9l\u00e9ments du quotidien, et r\u00e9veille la m\u00e9moire sensible du spectateur confront\u00e9 \u00e0 ses souvenirs personnels ou artistiques. Dans son travail il y a un go\u00fbt pour les lieux d&rsquo;ombre de l&rsquo;\u00e2me, pour une m\u00e9t\u00e9orologie fine des ambigu\u00eft\u00e9s, et c&rsquo;est bien le c\u00f4t\u00e9 m\u00e9taphysique qui traverse le quotidien de tout \u00eatre humain qui int\u00e9resse Molder.
