mots<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>May 21 \u2013 July 4, 2026<\/p><p>The gallery is delighted to present, from Thursday 21 May and as part of Paris Gallery Weekend from 29 to 31 May, a solo exhibition by Susana Solano entitled <em>derniers mots,<\/em> featuring a collection of sculptures \u2013 mainly recent works \u2013 which reflect her interest in Africa.<\/p><p>Susana Solano\u2019s sculpture is not merely a meditation on form in space \u2013 the sculptor\u2019s eternal preoccupation \u2013 but must also be imbued with feeling and intention; her sculptures \u2013 most often in stainless steel \u2013 are a journey through time. Susana Solano produces few works these days, as she believes that a work cannot be duplicated, must retain its resonance and \u2018evolves\u2019 over time. Indeed, she speaks of her work with a certain reserve and categorically rejects all rhetoric. \u2018The truth is that the creative spark springs forth without my forcing it, from my immediate social environment, from my personal experiences, from everyday life, from what I know and what I do not know, from what causes me pain and what brings me joy. The work no longer belongs to me, and this fills me with wonder, for it belongs to itself. I have been nothing more than an instrument, perhaps a shadow, of the collective memory. Any attempt at explanation is anecdotal, and the greatest anecdote would be to recount or write it down myself. Art is something else; therein lies its glory, in a world increasingly filled with pacts, norms, methods, bureaucracies, truths, reasons\u2026 and their opposites.\u201d<\/p><p>Susana Solano (Barcelona, 1946) is regarded as one of the most important artists of her generation in Spain. She was awarded the Spanish National Prize for Visual Arts in 1988, took part in documenta in Kassel in 1987 and, in the same year, at Skulptur Projekte M\u00fcnster, returning there again in 1992, and at the Venice Biennale in 1988 and 1993. Susana Solano produit peu d\u2019\u0153uvres aujourd\u2019hui, car elle consid\u00e8re qu\u2019une \u0153uvre ne peut se dupliquer, doit garder sa r\u00e9sonance et \u00ab\u00a0travaille\u00a0\u00bb avec le temps. D\u2019ailleurs, elle parle de son travail avec une certaine r\u00e9serve et rejette radicalement toute rh\u00e9torique.\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0La v\u00e9rit\u00e9, c\u2019est que l\u2019\u00e9tincelle cr\u00e9atrice jaillit sans que je la force, dans un environnement proche et social, dans mes exp\u00e9riences personnelles, dans la vie quotidienne, dans ce que je sais et ce que j\u2019ignore, dans ce qui me fait mal et ce qui me rend heureuse.\u00a0L\u2019\u0153uvre ne m\u2019appartient plus et cela m\u2019\u00e9merveille, car elle s\u2019appartient \u00e0 elle-m\u00eame. Je n\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 qu\u2019un instrument, peut-\u00eatre une ombre, de la m\u00e9moire collective. Toute tentative d\u2019explication est anecdotique, et la plus grande anecdote serait de la raconter ou de l\u2019\u00e9crire moi-m\u00eame.
